Matt is an experienced designer of commemorative, academic, and urban planning projects, on sites across the United States. Within those projects, his focus is often on horticulture and sustainable design.
Matt also blogs about commemorative design culture at www.monumentblog.com. The website is an extension of his masters thesis project at the University of Maryland, “Nomadic Memorial,” which explored nontraditional themes and forms in American commemoration.
In the Fall of 2017, Matt was excited to join the faculty at the University of Maryland where he taught LARC721 - Landscape Construction Methods and Materials as a lecturer at the graduate level.
As a graduate student, Matt was a member of the University of Maryland’s winning 2011 Solar Decathlon team, and a national finalist in the ULI/Hines Student Urban Design Competition. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in International Business and a Master of Landscape Architecture, both from the University of Maryland.
In 2015 he earned accreditation as a LEED AP with a specialty in Neighborhood Development. In 2017, he earned accreditation as a SITES AP.
