For the past 16 years, Marni’s been on a mission to inspire and connect leaders to ignite their green building passion into sustainability action. Since 2014, her role with the Technical Customer Service Team at USGBC / GBCI allows her to work directly with visionary architects, engineers, facilities managers and building and land owners from around the world, whom are transforming the development industry using LEED, SITES and WELL.
Trained as an architect - turned green building consultant and educator - Marni’s LEED project experience spans over 40 projects, of all types and sizes. Past projects include Mexico City’s iconic LEED EBOM Gold Torre Mayor (the second tallest skyscraper in Latin America), GreenFab’s LEED for Homes Platinum affordable modular home series and Starbucks first LEED CI retail store (while employed at Paladino and Company), to name just three.
Also while at Paladino, Marni supported growth of the LEED Rating System and USGBC, as one of the first ten LEED Reviewers in the US. She was also the first LEED Reviewer on behalf of the Canada Green Building Council.
At the chapter level, Marni became the Washington State Director of the Cascadia Green Building Council, based in Seattle, Washington, to roll out over 40 regional educational programs and launch two conferences, Engineering Green and the Living Future UnConference (the first international conference celebrating Living Buildings).
Now residing in Austin, Texas, she actively supports the USGBC Central Texas Balcones chapter as a volunteer and she is currently putting the finishing touches on the 2015 City of Dallas Sustainable Operations and Maintenance plan for their portfolio of over 500 buildings.
Other past stints include Sustainability Writer for the New York Times About.com website and developing the certification process for the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) in collaboration with GBCI.
With a love of public speaking, Marni promotes LEED and green building as a springboard for personal transformation - always pushing the edge, as we know it. Check out her latest TEDx talk at http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/Inspiring-sustainability-actions.
A graduate of the Montana State University – Bozeman School of Architecture (M Arch and BA In Environmental Design), Marni also holds the SustainableBuilding Advisor Certificate, LEED AP BD + C and became a LEED AP in 2003, a LEED Fellow in 2015 and a SITES AP in 2016.
For fun, Marni loves vegan cooking with fresh produce from the farmers market, yoga, camping and bike riding, alongside voracious reading and alt-country two-stepping in the live music capital of the world.
